Greenzo Energy India has secured an order from Jindal Stainless (JSL), India’s largest stainless-steel manufacturer, to establish a green hydrogen electrolyser plant at JSL’s Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex in Jajpur, Odisha. The development represents a step towards integrating renewable hydrogen into industrial manufacturing processes under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission.

The project is designed to produce 4,72,409 kg of green hydrogen annually, equivalent to 0.47 kilotonnes per annum (KTPA), with scalability of up to 1.5 KTPA. In terms of volume, the plant will deliver around 5.26 million Nm³ of high-purity hydrogen each year. This hydrogen will be deployed in critical stainless-steel production processes, including the Bright Annealing Line and Bell Furnace. Delivery and commissioning are scheduled within six months from the signing of the contract.

The electrolyser system, developed by Greenzo, is based on indigenous alkaline bipolar technology. It operates at 30 bar pressure and produces hydrogen at 99.99999 per cent purity. The plant also incorporates supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, as well as artificial intelligence-based automation for real-time optimisation of hydrogen generation and efficiency.

To support seamless integration, Greenzo Energy will provide JSL’s technical teams with 30 days of on-site training, followed by 11 months of virtual technical support. This approach is expected to help smoothen plant operations, enhance efficiency, and strengthen JSL’s workforce capabilities in hydrogen handling and process applications.

The project highlights the growing role of hydrogen in India’s industrial decarbonisation pathway. By substituting fossil-fuel derived hydrogen and other carbon-intensive inputs, the electrolyser will contribute to emissions reduction while aligning with national and global net-zero commitments. For JSL, the adoption of green hydrogen technologies is in line with its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) targets, as well as broader efforts to reduce the carbon intensity of steelmaking.
