Sterlite Technologies Ltd. (STL) has announced a strategic partnership with Hygenco to develop Maharashtra’s first green hydrogen and oxygen production facility for optical fiber manufacturing. The initiative, located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, will directly supply green hydrogen and oxygen to STL’s glass preform facility, marking a significant step in the company’s decarbonization journey.

With this move, STL is set to become one of the world’s first optical fiber manufacturers to fully integrate green hydrogen into its production processes. Hygenco will build, own, and operate the plant under a long-term supply agreement, ensuring uninterrupted delivery of green hydrogen and oxygen to STL for the next 20 years.

“This collaboration allows us to redefine sustainable manufacturing in our sector,” said Rahul Puri, CEO of Optical Networking Business, STL. “By leveraging 100% green hydrogen for our glass preform manufacturing, STL is setting a new global benchmark for decarbonization in the optical fiber industry. We are proud to lead the way and remain committed to a greener, more resilient future for India and the world.”

Amit Bansal, CEO of Hygenco Green Energies Pvt. Ltd., added, “Green hydrogen has the potential to be a game-changer in India's journey towards sustainability. Our partnership with STL is a bold and progressive step in decarbonizing industrial operations, and we’re proud to help lead the optical fiber industry into a new era of green manufacturing.”

The initiative supports STL’s broader goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030. As global industries accelerate their transition to clean energy, this collaboration reflects a growing trend toward integrating green hydrogen into core manufacturing processes.
