India’s first green hydrogen bus service, launched by NTPC Green in Leh, is set to expand with two additional routes connecting Pather Sahib Gurudwara and Magnetic Hill, according to a social media update from The Better India. The initiative supports clean mobility and sustainable tourism in the high-altitude region.
Since its launch last year at 11,562 feet—the world’s highest green hydrogen plant—NTPC Green’s buses have been powering public transport in Leh using locally produced hydrogen, reducing reliance on diesel and lowering emissions. The expansion signifies an ongoing commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure and promotes clean-tech adoption in remote Himalayan regions.
The move aligns with the objectives of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which encourages low-carbon transport solutions as part of broader decarbonization efforts. By integrating clean buses on prominent tourist routes, the project underscores the potential for hydrogen technologies in both public mobility and regional development.
